Extracurricular Activities

Besides pre-professional societies like the Caducean (for premedical students), two student-run clubs serve students in the department.  Highly qualified upper-class students are eligible for Phi Lambda Upsilon, the national honorary society for chemistry majors. Any student interested in chemistry is welcome to join the Draper Society, named after John W. Draper, a 19th century chairman of the department and first president of the American Chemical Society.  These societies organize an active program during each semester, including research talks given by department faculty and prestigious outside speakers, plus alumni, career events and tutoring sessions.
