Billy Marsiglia Receives NIH NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Fellowship

Marsiglia.jpgCongratulations to William (Billy) Marsiglia, who is the recipient of a prestigious and extensive NIH Fellowship given by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).  "The purpose of the NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00) is to encourage and retain outstanding graduate students who have demonstrated potential and interest in pursuing careers as independent cancer researchers. The award will facilitate the transition of talented graduate students into successful cancer research postdoctoral appointments, and provide opportunities for career development activities relevant to their long-term career goals of becoming independent cancer researchers."

Billy is a 3rd year graduate student in the Traaseth Lab.  His dissertation work is focused on understanding how pathogenic mutations in receptor tyrosine kinases lead to overstimulation of cell division that is characteristic of many types of cancers and growth disorders.  The competitive NCI Fellowship will provide support for up to 6 years.  Kudos to Billy!
