Diao Lab Provides Insight into Catalyst Design, in JACS and Angewandte Chemie

DiaoJDHX.jpegIn two independent reports in JACS and Angewandte Chemie, the Diao Lab describes their efforts to establish the fundamental reactivity of C-C and N-N bond formation through development of novel nickel complexes.  The JACS paper presents the discovery and characterization of unprecedented bimolecular mechanism for Ni-mediated C–C coupling. The Angewandte paper provides a new approach to construct nitrogen-nitrogDiaoGraphic.jpgen bonds, which remain challenging to synthesize despite their regular occurrence in natural products and pharmaceuticals.  Together, the two manuscripts provide invaluable insight for catalyst design for new reactions.

Hongwei Xu, Justin Diccianni, and Joseph Katigbak (Yingkai Zhang's Lab) are coauthors on the papers, and Dr. Chunhua Hu provided valuable assistance with X-ray crystallography.
